What cookies are

Cookies are small text files saved on the user's device when visiting a website. They can be first-party (set by the site being visited) or third-party (set by external domains), session cookies (deleted when the browser is closed) or persistent cookies.

Types of cookies

Technical cookies

They allow browsing and the delivery of the services requested by the user: session cookies, functionality cookies (for example the language) and analytics cookies used in aggregate form by the site operator. They do not require prior consent.

Profiling cookies

They build profiles of individual users in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences they have expressed. They require the user's prior consent.

Cookies and services on this site

The site is static and does not install profiling cookies of its own. Fonts are served from our own domain. The site uses the following services:

• CiaoBooking — Booking engine. When the pages of this site load, the widget does not store cookies or other data on your device (checked on 13/10/2026). When you start a search you are taken to the booking page ostelzzz.bookpage.io, run by CiaoBooking, which has its own privacy notice and its own cookie management.
• OpenStreetMap — Map embedded in an iframe on the Location and Contact pages. To display it your browser contacts openstreetmap.org, which receives your IP address.
• Cloudflare Web Analytics — Aggregate visit statistics (number of visitors and page views, origin and device), provided by Cloudflare, Inc. It uses no cookies or other data stored on your device and does not identify individual visitors, so it does not require consent.
• Google Analytics 4 (statistics, only with your consent) — see the next section.

Cookies subject to your consent: statistics

Google Analytics 4

It tells us which pages are useful, where visitors come from and how they move around the site. Google Analytics 4 does not record or store visitors' IP addresses. Data is processed by Google Ireland Ltd. and Google LLC and kept for 14 months. These cookies are set only if you switch on the "Statistics" category; before you choose, Google's script is not even downloaded.

• _ga — Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC — tells one visitor from another with a random identifier — lasts 2 years.
• _ga_<property-ID> — Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC — keeps the state of the Google Analytics 4 session — lasts 2 years.

Your choice and how to change it

On your first visit a banner appears: you can accept, refuse or choose by category, with controls of equal prominence. Closing the banner with the X keeps you on technical cookies only. Your choice is saved in your browser (entry ostelzzz:consent, local storage, no identifier) for 180 days, after which the banner is shown again. You can change your mind at any time from "Cookie preferences" at the bottom of every page.

Data collected by Google and Cloudflare may be transferred outside the European Economic Area (United States): the transfer relies on the European Commission's adequacy decision of 10 July 2023 (EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework), to which both companies adhere, and, secondarily, on the Standard Contractual Clauses.

Managing cookies

You can refuse or disable cookies and delete those already saved through your browser settings. The procedure differs from browser to browser and is described in the relevant help pages:
